FAQ - Environment

Below, we have gathered common questions regarding CO2 cleaning.

Does CO2 cleaning add to the greenhouse effect?
No. The CO2 used in the cleaning process is captured from existing sources; no new CO2 is manufactured for use in the process. In that sense, CO2 cleaning is environmentally neutral, it only "borrows" existing CO2 on its way to the atmosphere.

Does liquid CO2 cleaning result in any hazardous wastes that require special disposal?
No hazardous waste is produced with the CO2 cleaning process.
All Washpoint detergents are environmentally friendly, which means that as long as there are no hazardous materials on the clothing being cleaned, the waste can be disposed of in traditional landfills or flushed down the drain (as with a wet cleaning process).

How much CO2 is lost during a cleaning cycle?
Approximately 98% of the CO2 fluid is collected and can be used again. The remaining 2% is ventilated to the open air. However, the CO2 lost does not constitute any danger for the environment, it is environmentally neutral.
